2016-01-12 Bicycle protection programme Ep 01 (raw-ish)

In July 2021, YouTube set all unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 to private (unless the channel owner had opted out). In the weeks leading up to this change, Archive Team archived many pre-2017 unlisted YouTube videos. If this video was uploaded before 2017 and has gone private, there is a chance that a 360p archived version can be viewed on archive.org via the site's Wayback Machine as follows:

In certain situations, I choose to remain behind cyclists rather than (safely and considerately) overtake them. This comes into play when, for instance, other vehicles give off bad vibes, or if the terrain is not conducive for fast-paced cycling.

Here are two cyclists about to begin an uphill section. They were moving quite slowly, so I elected to stay behind just in case they could use a shield. Sure enough, this flat-bed truck came hurtling towards us; rather than change into the right lane, the driver honked twice, probably in an attempt to intimidate me into overtaking the cyclists. I didn't budge, he got the message, moved right and went past (I should note that this is uncharacteristic of truck drivers; they are usually far more aware, plan their moves, and are considerate to others).

Once I ascertained the cyclists could reach the top without encountering traffic, I carefully overtook them. Performing this cost me less than 30 seconds during the manoeuvre, and almost certainly nothing over the length of the trip, since progress is determined by traffic lights.
