FNaF Shrooms (Mid Animation Pass)

In July 2021, YouTube set all unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 to private (unless the channel owner had opted out). In the weeks leading up to this change, Archive Team archived many pre-2017 unlisted YouTube videos. If this video was uploaded before 2017 and has gone private, there is a chance that a 360p archived version can be viewed on archive.org via the site's Wayback Machine as follows:

1. Enter the YouTube URL in the Wayback Machine form or click on the following link:
https://web.archive.org/web/20210000000000*/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw5x6UnnLhA

2. Right-click on a blue entry in July in the calendar.

3. Click 'Copy link address'.

4. Paste the copied link address into your web browser's address bar and press enter.

Description:

Now this was a fun one. It was very refreshing to create an animation of my own for this, rather than copying directly from another video. As luck would have it, the things I learned from copying other videos carried over to creating original animation.

One of the cool things I learned is that you can use SFM to make storyboards and animatics, which you can then directly turn into the actual animation. By doing this, it makes it very easy to feel your way through things, and get down the general idea of what you want to see with very little hassle should you want to edit something, or add this or retime that, etc.

Another thing I learned is that Windows Movie Maker is shit and one of these days I should just buckle down and get a video editing program that lets me be the slightest goddamned bit precise with cutting footage out. For the drug trip sequence, I actually had to make it in a separate project file from the beginning and end of the video because I needed to film it on a separate map. So I had to take that footage and splice it in between the footage for the rest of the song, which WMM made annoying as shit to do properly. If you listen carefully on the final video, you can hear a little audio glitch right before it cuts to Mike saying the final "I'm on shrooms!". That's where I butchered the two videos together and couldn't be any more precise because, as was previously established, WMM is shit.

Going back to more positive things, however, I also learned a bit of how rigs worked while doing this video. I got annoyed that I had to turn on hidden controls every time I wanted to animate an animatronics' jaw or eyes, so I figured out how to add controls to the IK rig for them. Maybe in the future, I'll figure out how to add a viewtarget node to make eyeposing simpler, but doing that will be much more complicated than what I've been able to do so far.

Also, as an interesting little tidbit, I have no idea why Bonnie's head spins around right before he says the first "I'm on shrooms". It was some kind of animation error and I have no idea how it happened, but it worked so well I decided to keep it.

All in all, this was a great learning experience, and I hope to make more videos like it in the future!
