Documentary: 1968 Ohio State University admin building takeover by the Black Student Union |
Description: In 1968, black students at Ohio State had formed a Black Student Union that worked with the university administrators to address challenges facing black students. On April 25, 1968 a white campus bus driver ordered four BSU members off a bus for discussing their feelings about recent events and issues of the day. The next day, a meeting of BSU members and university officials to discuss the bus driver's actions evolved into a day-long student takeover of the administration building. - On April 26, 2018, more than 25 participants of the administration building takeover returned to campus to commemorate the 1968 event's 50th anniversary. The three-day reunion, which welcomed more than 100 family members and friends in addition to the participants themselves, included a ceremony on the Oval and a meeting with Dr. Michael V. Drake, the university's first African American president. |
