An Atheist's Lament - A Poem by BionicSeuss

In July 2021, YouTube set all unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 to private (unless the channel owner had opted out). In the weeks leading up to this change, Archive Team archived many pre-2017 unlisted YouTube videos. If this video was uploaded before 2017 and has gone private, there is a chance that a 360p archived version can be viewed on archive.org via the site's Wayback Machine as follows:

1. Enter the YouTube URL in the Wayback Machine form or click on the following link:

Description:

Just a wee bit o' rhyme for your day, my fellow atheists.

As I live in this world
I'll take a minute
To look all around
And ponder what's in it

Animals, plants,
and chemical bonds
Gasses and water
For oceans and ponds

And then further out
We've got planets like Mars
And several classes
Of hot burning stars

If we look further in,
We see cells and atoms
Quarks and leptons
In Sub-stomic stratums

The universe is a vast
And wonderous place
And yet despite that
Many of us can't face

A world without answers
Without external reason
For life, for living
For the turn of the seasons

It matters not to them
Whether this reason is real
They care only how
Their god makes them feel

They imagine up deities
To keep them safe and protected
To puninshed the wicked
And those who've rejected

This notion of deity
Though unproved it may be
God exists for those
Full of piety

And yet, when those
Who do not believe
Say to the religious
We've got a pet peeve

About their religion
And how faith is required
And how we've been treated
When we've inquired

How to tell if god's real
And not just a fable
And asked them to bring
A few facts to the table

And yet when we do
We get told that we're evil
For not just believing
For causing upheaval

As if it's our fault
God's not real in the end
And all that they're doing
Is playing Pretend

With themselves and their flock
The whole congregation
Is it any wonder
We find conflagration

If they're confronted by those
Who demand evidence and reason
Instead of equating
Questioning beliefs with treason?

How do we manage when
We're diametrically opposed
Each side would prefer
If their views were imposed

Or at least accepted
And not a pariah
Whether we're talking
Atheist or messiah

The way that I see it
It's our religious brothers
Being the ones who won't
Play well with others.

Don't get me wrong,
I think they're all nuts
And in many ways
I think that they're what's

Wrong with this world
But despite all that flak
I can live and let live
If they'll just do it back!

But they won't and I know it
They think this world's theirs
And that, my friends
Is a sad state of affairs.

Thank you
