I wanted to share a personal story with you from my family history. It’s about my grandpa, Hiroharu, and how he survived the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb on August 6th, 1945. Hiroshima was the first city in history to be targeted by a nuclear weapon. 90,000 to 166,000 people were killed in Hiroshima; and in the total, the two atomic bombs killed 130,000 to 246,000 people. Many who survived the initial blast roamed the streets like walking zombies, with their melted skin dripping off their bodies due to the heat of the radiation. Those who survived the initial effects of the bomb had to contend with radiation poisoning for years to come. My grandpa witnessed all of this. I want to say that I’m not trying to make any sort of political statement here, I’m just trying to tell my grandpa’s story. Thank you. Thanks for watching!
