Description:

If you like this video please click that "thumbs up" button because it'll combat those downvoters. I ran outside on the night of December 8th, 2014 to join the people of Berkeley. What I understood upon arriving was that a community of people were on their feet and moved to go to the streets to protest and make a hard statement about the racist mistreatment and the racist injustice that happens to black people every single day. This spark was due in large with the events that recently happened with Eric Garner & Michael Brown whose murderers (police officers) weren't indicted for their crimes. What I was reminded of in the media was that I was told over and over again that the Berkeley Protestors were a violent group of people: criminals, looters, and utter deviants. That night I would see none of these types of people. In fact, whenever the demonstrations would go a little awry, the people of Berkeley would remind each other to stay peaceful, thoughtful, and keep marching as one. It was beautiful. It's sad and really unfortunate that a small group of looters outweighs any peaceful demonstration that happens in Berkeley. It's these looters and the media who amplifies their actions that distorts the real issue at hand. Let's understand the issues here: Michael Brown; an unarmed teenager who was shot 6 times, twice in the head, by a police officer who was sworn in to protect him and his city. This very police officer wasn't indicted for his actions. Eric Garner; a 43 year old man who was brought down by 4 police officers, one of which was using an illegal chokehold, as they pinned him down to the ground. Mr. Garner even gave warning that he could barely and soon couldn't breath. He soon died afterwards. What's crazy is that even though it was video taped - his killer still didn't get indicted. This is why people are on their feet and marching in the street. The media would rather show the looters day after day than show talk about the issues at hand. This is why I filmed this. It wasn't planned as it shot mostly on my phone. I hope you and my future kids will be able to see December 8th, 2014 as a day when Berkeley Protestors peacefully overtook a freeway. editing inspiration by Casey Neistat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBjOoVbCYlA
