In July 2021, YouTube set all unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 to private (unless the channel owner had opted out). In the weeks leading up to this change, Archive Team archived many pre-2017 unlisted YouTube videos. Description: Dr. Andrew Bruckner, Chief Scientist of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, collects Crown of Thorns Starfish (COTS) during an outbreak in the Maldives. An outbreak of these voracious coral predators can decimate a coral reef in a matter of weeks. Our team of scientist was deployed to the Maldives to study the outbreak, remove as many starfish as they could, and teach local dive operators how to safely remove these spiny and poisonous starfish from the reef. At last count the Starfish Control and Removal Program (SCAR) removed over 7,000 of these starfish from reefs in the Maldives.
