In July 2021, YouTube set all unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 to private (unless the channel owner had opted out). In the weeks leading up to this change, Archive Team archived many pre-2017 unlisted YouTube videos. A video explaining the technique for reforestation by UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones) to counter deforestation.

The system works through two phases.

Phase 1 uses a mapping UAV to gather detailed terrain data. This data is used to generate high quality 3D maps of the area to be reforested.

Phase 2 involves the use of automated planting units. These shoot biodegradable nutrient seed pods onto the ground from a height of one to two metres.

The planting system is an air-fired system, requiring a small pressurised air canister which provides the necessary propulsive force for the seed pods. The planting system is powered by the UAV, while all guidance and control software is also housed in the UAV. Once the UAV has reached the designated planting location, a signal is sent from the UAV to the planting system via the integrated circuitry, activating the planting mechanism and deploying a seed pod.

The seed pods break open upon impact, allowing a germinated seed within to grow unhindered. The pods are filled with a nutrient rich gel, to reduce impact forces on the seedling while planting and to ensure seedling health and growth.
