Description:

A Coaching animation for a session working on passing, space awareness and anticipation. Team in possession scores points by passing the soccer ball into any one of 4 scoring zones. Pass must be received in the scoring zone by a player on their team for the point to count.

If the opposition team wins the ball back, the roles reverse and they must then attempt to score points.

How to: Create two even teams inside a 35x35 yard field, place 5x5 yard squares down in each corner (change dimensions to suit the age, number of players, skill level etc)

Coaching points:

Accuracy of pass/Timing of pass/ Weight of pass- The soccer ball must be collected by a team mate IN the scoring zone for it to count, if the pass is played too early, it will roll out the other side, if it is played too heavy, your team mate won't control it.

Anticipate play, take a chance- Make off the ball runs to make things happen for your team, take a chance on a run to create a scoring opportunity. Even if your run doesn't result in you scoring the point, it may free up a team mate for a simple scoring opportunity.

Play with your head up- There are 4 scoring opportunities, the closest and most simple option may be right next to you

Maintain possession- Keep playing once a point has been scored. You might be able to capitalize on poor defensive form and score more quick points.

Play smart- Don't just run and stand in an area ready to receive a pass, you're easy to mark. Fake a run to lose your defender before moving to where you want the ball played.

NOTE: This is an attacking session, play numbers up for the first 5 minutes if necessary to give the attacking team more success. E.g. 4v2/ 6v4 etc
