Addressing Kaalaman's Accusations (full Facebook conversation revealed) |
Description: - Facebook conversation starts off cordial, then quickly escalates in bizarre fashion. - In-depth timestamps are in the pinned comment below. - I only later found out with proof that Kaalaman uses this as his fake account (one of many) where he pretends to be someone else (Ella Thompson in this case) to post positive comments on his own content. ------------------- MY THOUGHTS ON THE KAALAMAN SITUATION [I assume this is irrelevant to the majority of KB fans, so do feel free to ignore this - and rest assured, I’m working on the next video.'> Hey guys. So if you haven’t heard, another YouTuber is trying to use his influence to take the Kento Bento channel down. I would normally just ignore drama like this, but he has published a hit-piece video that is filled with inaccurate and misleading information (it’s in Tagalog). Unfortunately for me, this has resulted in an all-out assault from some of his fans... but unfortunately for Kaalaman, his video just isn’t very smart. It’s going to take me little effort to refute his claims. Actually, there’s one easy way to do this, and that’s to release our entire private Facebook conversation which shows the truth of the situation. So that’s what I’ve done in this unlisted video. This way, people can form their own opinion directly from what both parties have said and revealed to each other. (*Edit: I later found out he was talking to me using one of his fake accounts where he pretends to be someone else to post positive comments on his own content). The video also serves as my immediate unscripted response to finding out about his attack on me. My wife, Nina Bento appears at the end of the video for those interested. So Kaalaman is the YouTuber I mentioned in my previous community post who copied much of my script and translated it. At first he seemed cordial enough in apologizing, but the exchanges soon escalated for increasingly bizarre reasons (as you can see in the video). Since I don’t speak Tagalog, it was hard for me in my video to respond to every allegation, so below is a brief rebuttal of some of his false claims: ------------- - One of Kaalaman's most important accusations was that my script was straight translated using Google Translate. This is categorically and demonstrably untrue. I researched multiple sources, with the information carefully crafted & structured in my usual storytelling style that I have established on my channel. He brings up one source in particular that he claimed I Google Translated word-for-word, which is bizarre because: 1) the screenshot examples he shows in his video clearly do not look the same as my script 2) why would I even use Google Translate when there are people in our team that can read & write Japanese 3) if Google Translate was good enough to spontaneously generate a script in the style and quality level of a KB video, translators and interpreters everywhere would no longer have jobs - Kaalaman thus claims if I say my work is transformative, then he can say his work is transformative too because he translated my script. Unfortunately for him, simply translating doesn’t make it transformative. It appears his confusion may lie in the lack of understanding in the difference between the raw information and works that are transformative but still using that same raw information. - Think about a novel. In order to make a translation of that novel, you need a license from the original author. You can’t just randomly translate it, publish it, and “give attribution”. This also means Kaalaman’s other defense of mentioning my name in his video means little. - Giving attribution has no legal bearing, especially given that he never reached out to me. In fact, I tried contacting him after he released his Japanese Prison Break video regarding my concerns, and he blocked me and never responded. It was only after I mentioned him in my community post that he finally messaged me. This is all admitted by Kaalaman in the FB conversation. - All other claims will be refuted in the unlisted video, with proof.
